Help Us Rise is a community-focused initiative of The Beirut Foundation, dedicated to supporting individuals and families across Lebanon. The initiative works by directing resources to trusted local organizations and community-led efforts, ensuring that support is meaningful, grounded, and responsive to real needs. Its approach is collaborative, partnership-based, and centered on long-term community well-being.
In hundreds of public schools across Lebanon, school kitchens did more than feed children—they empowered communities.
Women volunteers prepared meals that nourished over 100,000 students, including children with disabilities. For many families, these were the only guaranteed meals of the day.
Because dignity begins with something as simple—and essential—as a sandwich.

Food insecurity in Lebanon is projected to affect 1.24 million people by the end of 2025.
But across the country, people are mobilizing: from youth-led composting projects to women preparing nutritious school meals to farmers receiving tools to restore their land.
Solutions are growing—and so is community strength.

In 2025, Lebanon continued to grapple with the lasting effects of economic collapse and displacement. But across its schools, fields, kitchens, and clinics, people kept showing up—for one another.
Local volunteers prepared meals for over 100,000 students. Women-led cooperatives supported public schools. Farmers revived greenhouses. Community workers rebuilt trust.
Even in crisis, resilience takes root.

On August 4, 2020, one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in modern history struck Beirut, causing loss of life, widespread damage, and long-lasting impact on its communities. In response, Thomas A. Abraham launched Help Us Rise as a direct relief initiative to support those affected. From its earliest efforts, the initiative focused on funding and strengthening local organizations and on-the-ground partners who were already embedded in the neighborhoods they served.
During its first year, Help Us Rise operated under the Anthony R. Abraham Foundation, chaired by Thomas. In 2021, recognizing the need for sustained and structured support, Thomas founded The Beirut Foundation as an independent, non-political organization committed to the well-being of individuals and communities in Beirut and throughout Lebanon.
Today, Help Us Rise continues as one of The Beirut Foundation’s key initiatives, evolving from emergency relief into ongoing community support, capacity-building, and long-term partnership-based development.

The Beirut Foundation works through partnerships, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
Where there is community, there is resilience. Where there is resilience, there is hope.
